BEHIND THE SCENES AT BAY STREET PLAYERS,
dinner at Café Gianni and a performance of “Driving Miss Daisy”.
5 to 10 p.m. Bay State Theatre

Registration: 352.357.3995. $54 per person covers the class, dinner and admission to “Driving Miss Daisy”. (Tax and tip at Café Gianni not included).  Minimum 10, maximum 40 people.
David Clevinger, artistic director, will show how a small theater works and will tour the group behind stage. Dinner will be served at Café Gianni and the group will attend the show, “Driving Miss Daisy”.

Sandra Wright, calligrapher / abstract artist, will teach the basic use of the calligraphic pen in creating letters, shapes and designs. From structure to freedom, Wright maneuvers the calligraphic pen with expressive movements at various angles. Your practice pad will be filled as you dabble your way through this fun filled adventure. Students will purchase a supply kit from DK Supply or the instructor.

9 to 2:30 p.m. Morning, Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 CR 44, Eustis:
Afternoon, Lake Eustis Arts Accord, 205 North Grove Street, Eustis.
Registration 352.357.3995. $15. Minimum 8, maximum 20 people.
Using natural objects collected during the morning nature walk, participants will create functional art. In the morning Lavon Silvernell, naturalist, will discuss how soil, water, plants and animals work together to create the beauty and diversity of a natural area. During the nature walk, participants will collect natural objects for use in the afternoon art session. 11:30 to 12:30 is a lunch break; bring your own or join the group at Café Gianni in Eustis. In the afternoon, Kace Montgomery, artist, will show how to create a memento with the natural objects collected by leaving an impression on clay transforming it into functional clay coasters.

Cindy Sbrissa, professional mosaic artist, will guide students in placing pre-cut glass tiles in a glass candleholder design of their choosing as they explore the tools, skills, and materials required to create their own works of mosaic art. Students will not be grouting during this class. Each student will receive a take-home kit which includes pre-measured grout, plastic gloves and step-by-step instructions.

Kace Montgomery, artist, will demonstrate basic pencil drawing: shape, texture, gesture, perspective and composition. Drawing skills for artists and non-artists alike. Includes materials.

Brenda Heim, Zen brush painting artist, in an outdoor setting – in a studio without walls - will discuss the experience ‘Gestural’ painting. Using the Japanese “Enso” circle as a muse for painting with a mop, one will learn the difference between passive and fearless ‘Gestural’ painting. The students will create and take home a small, one stroke, two stroke, Zen brush painting on paper. No prior experience necessary. This painting style tends to be messy, please dress for mess and outside weather. Includes supplies. Green tea will be served upon arrival.

Doug Hays, sculptor, will introduce students to the oxy/acetelyne torch, the most useful tool in a metal worker’s shop. With it you can shape, cut, and join steel, and non-ferrous metals can be annealed for shaping, and joined. Covers basic torch operations and metalworking techniques with three main metals: steel, copper and aluminum. Hays will also touch on annealing, basic forging, forming, and joining with solder and brazing. Wear - cotton clothing and leather shoes (best is a sturdy pair of jeans, a thick cotton t-shirt and leather boots). All equipment, safety glasses and welding gloves will be provided.

Valerie Hart, host of the TV show “Back of the House”, cookbook author and expert chef will lead the class in preparing a full course meal including Veal Piccata with capers & angel hair pasta as the entrée and a chocolate soufflé as dessert.

Lou Ley, springs coordinator and Mike Martin, forester, will lead a hike down forest roads and a little off the beaten path to explore two or three of the thirteen known springs which make Seminole Forest critical to Florida’s water.

Great experience with gas firing in a Raku kiln – the Arts Accord does the hot work! Select three pots to glaze, then watch this ancient process from incandescence to flame and smoke … then take your new pottery home!

Brenda Heim and Kace Montgomery, professional career artists, Public Arts consultants, will discuss the basics of marketing art and self. Topics include: graphics (identity, branding, portfolio, photography, web presence); professional etiquette and ethics; targeting/identifying your market; career direction and motivation; finding, communicating with, and retaining long term clients. When to pro-bono work and how to get more than a receipt for your donation. Materials: handouts and suggested reading. Bring your portfolio and marketing materials, if available.
