Barto2010 BARTO PRIZE AND CONCERT A STUNNING SUCCESS

On Saturday evening, March 20, 2010, the Institute presented the third biennial (every two years) Tzimon Barto Concert and announced the winner of the 2010 Barto Prize for solo piano composition.

Tzimon Barto is an internationally acclaimed classical pianist and a native of Eustis, Florida. He joined with the Institute to create the Barto Prize for composers in 2005 and the first competition was held in 2006. In addition to the prize’s recognition of excellence and a monetary award, the winning composers receive assurance their piece will be heard throughout the world. Barto plays the winning composition during his annual concert tour.

The concert was held at the historic State Theatre in Eustis and the winning composer attended.

A sell-out crowd rose to its feet in ovation, after every piece played by Tzimon Barto. The program was technically difficult and brilliantly played.

Institute President Frank Gaylord presented the perpetual trophy to winning composer George King (click here for biography) of the United Kingdom, prior to Barto’s playing of the composition.

George King’s composition, Six Etudes, was unanimously selected as the winner by all four judges of the competition. The judging panel consisted of: Tzimon Barto, Augusta Read Thomas of the United States, Bright Sheng of China, and Aribert Reimann of Germany.
